How to Read Your Oracle Card

Each card can bring you a flood of new thoughts, insights, and revelations. The moment you look at the image, something stirs, emotions, associations, memories, half-formed intuitions.

Your main task is to catch what spontaneously surfaces.

The best way to do this is to speak your thoughts out loud or write them down. If that’s not possible right now, at least say them clearly to yourself, internally, but with intention. Often, the answer to your question emerges gradually, as you lean into those vague feelings that appeared the moment you first saw the card.

Sometimes the answer is right on the surface. Especially if you already have experience working with symbols and imagery.

Here are some questions to help you find your way in:

  • What caught my attention first?
  • What do I feel when I look at this card?
  • What emotions come up? When have I felt something similar before?
  • How does the figure (or figures) in the image feel?
  • What might they do next, and how do I feel about that?
  • Do I see myself somewhere in this image? What role am I playing?
  • Or am I an outside observer? If so, what does watching this scene bring up for me?
  • Is there something in the card I’m avoiding or not wanting to see? Why?
  • What does this image tell me about what I’m asking?
  • How is this card answering my question?

There’s no single right way to read a card. The more you practice, the more fluent you become in your own symbolic language.
